If an extended test drive in a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) could help you and your family choose your next vehicle, you may be interested to learn about a brilliant Motability Scheme initiative called the 'WAV Experience' programme. Whether you’re an existing Motability Scheme customer or a newcomer who is considering a WAV for the first time, this trial is a great way to find out if this type of vehicle is a good fit for you.
If you’ve never experienced a WAV before, driving and travelling in one can be a unique experience in comparison to a standard car. Although a great option for many wheelchair users, WAVs don’t suit everyone.
To give you and any named drivers a feel for the WAV way of life, the Motability Scheme has partnered with Proximo, one of the UK's largest providers of specialist and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs), to offer an exclusive seven day test experience to existing Motability Scheme customers and people with a disability who are yet to join, who are thinking about ordering a new WAV through the Motability Scheme.
The WAV Experience allows you and your family to try out a WAV for seven days without committing to a lease.
After a discussion and agreement with the Motability Scheme team, a pre-selected WAV will be delivered to your door by Proximo. Proximo will ensure that you and any named drivers feel comfortable and confident to drive and control the WAV, demonstrating how the features work and showing you around the vehicle.
To discover whether a WAV is the best vehicle to suit your needs, you are then able to use the WAV for seven days, for free.
At the end of the seven days, there is no obligation to order a new WAV through Motability, and Proximo will simply collect the vehicle back from you.
The aim of the WAV Experience is to assist you in understanding if a WAV is the right choice for you. By trialling this vehicle type, you’ll get a feel for the sort of features you may need if you then decide to lease a WAV on the Motability Scheme.
Note that this is not a replacement for a WAV demonstration from a WAV supplier, and it’s important to organise home demonstrations with WAV suppliers if you decide to order a WAV after the experience. This will ensure that you find the best model that's suited to all your needs.
With the WAV Experience, you are provided with a vehicle based on your requirements and Promixo’s availability at the time of your experience. You are not able to request specific WAV makes and models.
In turn, only passenger WAVs are available as part of the experience. For other WAV types, such as Internal Transfer WAVs, you’ll need to organise a home demonstration with a WAV supplier.
