2019 is set to be jam packed with manufacturers releasing great new cars here in the UK, many of which will be available to order through the Motability Scheme. Here we take a quick look at what we know so far…
Audi will bring the new A3 to market in 2019. It’s expected that the German firm will launch the new A3 with plenty of clever new driving assistance features and much of the safety kit that already exists in the new A4/A5 range. Also, expect to see a big improvement in fuel efficiency, with improved engines and new hybrid powertrains.
Launch date: Unknown
BMW have said that the new BMW 1 Series will boast vastly improved interior and luggage space, but the biggest change will be the switch from the current rear-wheel-drive platform to a new front-wheel-drive system. The changes are expected to improve fuel consumption, but it isn’t thought that on the outside the new 1 Series will look that much different to the model it’ll be replacing.
Launch date: Out Now
The new 2019 BMW 3 Series will feature a new generation of engines, including a new hybrid plug in capable of travelling around 37 miles on electric alone. It’ll be the most advanced 3 series ever, featuring much of the technology and visual enhancements already seen in the BMW 5 series.
An estate version and 4 Series Coupé and Convertible models will follow.
Launch date: April / May 2019
Motability drivers will be please to learn that the new Citroën C5 Aircross shares much of its architecture with the excellent and multi-award winning Peugeot 3008, so it is expected to perform incredibly well when it’s released in the UK this year. The C5 Aircross is a large SUV that follows Citroën's recent styling direction. Citroën's flagship car will be available with the carmakers first-ever plug-in option, and will also feature hydraulic suspension and ‘advanced comfort’ seats.
Launch date: Out Now
The new DS3 Crossback is expected to replace the aging DS3 hatchback later this year. Pitching itself against cars like the Audi Q2, the Mini Countryman and Mercedes Benz GLA, this compact SUV will be available at launch with conventional petrol and diesel engines, plus there’s expected to be an all-electric version coming some time after launch with a range of around 200 miles.
Launch date: Out Now
Ford are introducing a 4x4 inspired version of their popular 5 door hatchback early this year. The Focus Active will be available as a hatchback and an estate. Motability drivers who order this model will benefit from an increased ride height over the standard Focus, bulkier exterior styling and wheel arch extensions, although the car won’t actually feature a four-wheel drive option.
Launch date: Out Now
There’s an all new Mazda 3 set to hit our shores early this year. Not much is known about the new Mazda 3 at the moment, but it’s expected to feature Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X petrol engine technology, which promises diesel like efficiency in a petrol engine. Another big focus for Mazda this time around has been to massively improve quality on the inside, with the firm hoping that a premium interior will help the car to compete against potential new rivals like the Mercedes Benz A Class and BMW 1 Series.
Launch date: Out Now
The all-new Mercedes Benz B Class joins the Mercedes line up early this year. While many firms are moving away from MPV’s to SUV’s, Mercedes clearly hope that there’s still life in the family MPV segment as the B Class goes up against cars like the BMW 2 Series Active and VW Golf SV. It’s likely that the new B Class will, in many respects, be similar to the new A Class (but with much more head and leg room for all the occupants) plus there’s a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines from launch.
Launch date: Early 2019
It's thought that the next-generation GLA will also share many of the same features and the design direction of the latest A Class. On the inside, this new compact SUV from Mercedes will get all the firms latest infotainment and driving technology.
Launch date: Late 2019 / Early 2020
Nissan will release a replacement for their aging Juke in 2019. Considered by many to be the first mini-SUV, the Juke is a popular car on the Motability Scheme that’s built here in the UK at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland. Expect the next-generation Nissan Juke to retain its ‘quirky’ appearance, and it’s bound to feature much of the tech currently on show in the recently released and excellent Nissan Micra.
Launch date: Out Now
We should get to see the first pictures of the all-new Peugeot 208 in late February. The French supermini will share its architecture with the next Vauxhall Corsa and it’s thought the car has been engineered to accommodate both petrol and electric powertrains. It’s likely the new 208 will take many design cues from the successful 3008.

The next-generation Renault Clio will make it’s first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2019 with sales starting soon after. Available only with 5 doors, the new Clio will boast a hybrid option and autonomous driving features normally reserved for cars with a much bigger price tag. There will also be a big improvement in the overall interior quality, with a large touchscreen expected to feature on the centre console.

2019 is all set to be a busy year for the mini-SUV segment. With the all-new Nissan Juke and a number of other new entrants coming next year, the second-generation Captur will have to be exceptional to continue to compete in this crowded segment of the market. With a plug-in hybrid and new petrol engines already announced, expect the new Captur to improve in every way.
Launch date: Late 2019
The Spanish carmaker will introduce their first ever 7 seat SUV to the UK market early in 2019. The SEAT Tarraco looks like a bold and practical addition to the range of large SUV’s available through the Motability Scheme, with premium styling and the latest connected technology. SEAT plan to introduce a plug-in hybrid soon after the initial launch.
Launch date: Out Now
In 2019 Skoda will replace the Rapid with a new model they’ve named the Scala. This new, affordable family hatchback should be a good car for the Czech carmaker, thanks to its close links to the Golf within the Volkswagen group.
With a big increase in interior quality and space, Skoda will be hoping to take sales off more established rivals like the Vauxhall Astra and Ford Focus. Expect a large touchscreen to control most of the car’s entertainment and comfort features and a host of new safety improvements.
Launch date: Out Now
The Corolla is back, replacing the Auris name for Toyota’s family-sized hatchback and estate (which they’re calling the Corolla Touring Sports). The car gets a much prettier exterior design than Auris it replaces, and the ride and handling should benefit from a huge improvement on the outgoing model. Two petrol hybrids will be available, with no diesel models offered. The Corolla Touring Sports model will offer almost 600 litres of boot space.
Launch date: Out Now
The 2019 Vauxhall Corsa will be the first all-new car to be launched by the brand since its takeover by PSA. The Corsa will share a platform with the next generation Peugeot 208, and is expected to include models that are powered exclusively by an electric powertrain. Petrol models will also be available, though it isn’t thought that a diesel version will be sold with this model.
Launch date: Late 2019
The Vauxhall Astra has always been a popular choice with Motability customers, and this facelifted version of the award-winning hatchback will have to be good in the face of stiff competition in what is perhaps the toughest sector of the new car market. Expect upgrades to the engine line up and the possible introduction of a hot GSi version.
Launch date: Out Now
The Golf Mk8 is expected to launch in the summer of 2019, with a host of new technology including autonomous driving features plus improvements to the digital cockpit and safety systems. Expect the petrol engine line up to improve, plus new hybrid and PHEV options. If history is anything to by, the next generation Golf will grow again and be longer and wider than the model it replaces.
Launch date: Late 2019
This new mini-SUV is the baby brother of the recently released VW T-Roc. Volkswagen will pitch the T-Cross against competitors like the SEAT Arona, the Citroen C3 Aircross and the Vauxhall Crossland X.
