The Research Institute for Disabled Consumers (RiDC) has launched a newly revised online car search with detailed measurement data on over 1700 vehicles. It allows visitors to search for the best vehicles by specific measurements, including seat heights, headroom, door openings and boot sizes plus vehicles that can store an unfolded standard wheelchair.
People with a disability with specific needs often need more help and advice when looking for a vehicle that suits their individual requirements, and the new search from the RiDC can help people with a disability and carers find a car that can help with their accessibility needs.
For example, drivers who find bending down difficult may want a vehicle with a higher driving position. Other people may be loooking for a vehicle with a large boot and fold flat rear seats to make loading easier.
Around thirty key measurements for each individual vehicle are taken and recorded by the RiDC, with around 150 new vehicles added each year.
