From February 2024, people in the UK with a disability who receive a qualifying Mobility Allowance will be able to exchange it and order a brand new car from the Subaru and smart range through the Motability Scheme.
Subaru is thought to be joining the Motability leasing programme with the introduction of the Forester e-Boxer and Outback models.
Subaru's fifth generation Forester, enhanced back in 2019 with an e-Boxer mild hybrid petrol powertrain and more recently, given a useful mid-term facelift, is a capable mid-sized family SUV with permanent All-Wheel-Drive that makes it good option for Motability customers who want a vehicle with proper towing and off-roading capabilities.
The sixth generation Subaru Outback is a tough and accomplished estate car that also has an All-Wheel-Drive set-up, plus it benefits from a huge luggage area (with a powered tailgate) and a 2,000kg braked (or 750kg unbraked) towing capacity.
The news was confirmed by a Subaru specialist, who said they expected to be back on the Motability Scheme 'within the next seven days'.
Smart return with the recently-launched smart #1, a car that the company hopes will reinvent the smart brand for a new era. A compact full-electric small hatch for style-conscious folk, the smart #1 'retains the smart spirit' but offers it in a new package that has space for five and an electric range of up to 273 miles.
The smart #1 'Pro +' 66kWh automatic, which features a panoramic sunroof, 360 camera and smart pilot assist driving, will be available through the Motability Scheme with no Advance Payment to pay upfront (as advertised on the Stratstone smart website).
The exact launch dates for both carmakers are still to be confirmed.
The Motability Scheme allows people who receive a qualifying mobility allowance to use that money to pay for the lease of a brand new vehicle. After making an initial Advance Payment (if there is one), Motability take monthly payments for the vehicle straight from the Mobility Allowance provider. Insurance for up to three drivers, servicing, maintenance, breakdown cover, windscreen repairs and tyre cover are all included by the three-year agreement.
