This is the new eBussy, and if things go according to plan you could see one on UK roads sometime next year. New German manufacturer Electric Brands has just announced its new battery electric vehicle which, thanks to its modular 'Lego style' EV platform, will be available to order in 10 different body styles.
The vehicle's design looks to be heavily inspired by the old Volkswagen microbus, crossed with more than a hint of the new electric Honda E. With at least 10 modular and interchangeable bodies, Electric Brands say that customers will be able to transform the eBussy into a convertible, off-roader, box body, station wagon, pick-up, van or a 'camping bus' in just a few steps.
Two chassis configurations will be offered (city and off-road) and there will be three driving positions - left, central and right - that can be easily changed by simply sliding the steering wheel across the dashboard.
The eBussy platform will use a permanent all-wheel drive setup with four electric motors. The standard 10kWh battery is expected to provide a range of around 124 miles, with the optional 30kWh battery upgrade able to cover more than 370 miles on a single charge. Range will be supported by a smart regenerative braking system and solar panels on the roof of the vehicle.
Its modular design, innovative technology and low starting price could mean that the eBussy will be an ideal vehicle for disabled drivers and wheelchair users who want something fun, versatile and incredibly practical.
Entry models are expected to start at around £14,300, rising to £26,000 for the most expensive eBussy 'Camper' versions.
