How Do I Know If I Qualify For A Motability Vehicle?

To join the Motability Scheme, you need to currently benefit from one of the following government funded Mobility Allowances:

  • The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) - worth £75.75 a week
  • The Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) - worth £75.75 a week
  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Child Disability Payment (Scotland) - worth £75.75 a week
  • The Enhanced Rate Mobility part of the Adult Disability Payment (Scotland) - worth £75.75 a week
  • The Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) - worth £75.75 a week
  • The War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) - worth £84.55 a week

The Motability Scheme helps disabled people be more mobile by exchanging their Mobility Allowance for a brand new car. It's only the mobility element of the allowance that is exchanged for a vehicle, not the whole allowance. You also need at least 12 months' award length remaining if you're new to the Motability Scheme, or you can submit an application with less than 12 months' allowance remaining if you're an existing Scheme customer.

Unfortunately, the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a vehicle through the Motability Scheme.
