Is There An Age Limit For Motability?
People often think that the Motability car scheme has an upper age limit, and while that’s partly...
The Motability Scheme offers disabled people in the UK who are in receipt of certain Mobility Allowances the opportunity to drive a brand new car. The vehicle comes with a 3 year all-inclusive worry-free package where the cost of everything (except fuel) is included.
Joining is easy. Here's how to join in 4 simple steps:
Search through hundreds of deals on brand new Motability cars, crossovers, Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs). Read our guide to Choosing A Motability Car to help you create a shortlist of vehicles.
Once you have an idea of what type of car you want, make an appointment to visit an approved Motability specialist at a local car dealership to test drive a vehicle and find out more about the Motability Scheme. You can also start your application at home by creating your own Motability Online Account.
There are no credit checks to worry about, no waiting lists and no medical assessments.
After you’ve taken a test drive, if you love the car you’ll be ready to place an order. The Motability specialist will place the order for you at the dealership.
You’ll need to bring photo ID (such as a UK driving licence or UK passport) with you and the driving licences of any new drivers you want to be insured. You'll also need to know your National Insurance Number or your Motability Customer Reference Number.
If you need any help with specialist adaptations (many of which are free of charge) or have any questions, your Motability specialist will be able to advise you during your visit.
Once Motability have accepted your application you will receive confirmation of all the details of your order and a unique PIN number for you to enter with the Motability advisor when you collect the car.
You'll also be given access to the Motability Scheme online account, where you can monitor the progress of your application, manage your lease, keep your information up to date and quickly find all the contact details for your managing dealership.
The Motability specialist will arrange a convenient day for you to return to the dealership for the handover of your new Motability car. When you arrive, they will ask you to enter your PIN number to confirm that you accept all the terms and conditions, then they'll make sure all the paperwork is completed correctly and that you and/or any nominated drivers are fully insured to drive the vehicle.
That’s it! The Motability specialist will give you one final tour of the car and its features, then you're all set to drive away in your brand new car, with fully comprehensive insurance for up to 3 people, RAC roadside breakdown cover, routine servicing, maintenance and a mileage allowance of 60,000 miles, all included for 3 years.
If you’ve chosen a car with an Advance Payment, this will be paid to the dealership during the handover.
