Are you one of the 1 million people in the UK who qualify for a new car through Motability but have not yet joined the scheme? Motability is a UK Government-backed initiative dedicated to helping people with disabilities, war pensioners and carers drive a brand new, safe and reliable car.
To join the Motability Scheme you need to currently receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component (ERMC) of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS).
When you choose to lease a car with Motability, there are over 2000 different vehicles to pick from. With cars, crossovers, MPVs and SUVs from over 30 different manufacturers, you might need some help to make sure you choose the right one, so it's good to know there are over 4,000 specialist Motability dealerships in the UK that you can visit. Every dealership has a fully trained and accredited Motability specialist on hand in the showroom to assist you, take you out on a thorough test drive and provide all the advice you need to help you choose the Motability car that best suits your individual needs.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) are vehicles that have been specially adapted so that people with disabilities can travel in comfort and safety while seated in their wheelchair. You can choose to lease a brand new WAV through the Motability Scheme, order your own through an approved WAV converter or buy a more affordable second hand WAV through a specialist used WAV dealership.
